About the project
LogJSON is an open-source desktop app by our team for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel). It is distributed under the MIT license via GitHub Releases.
The task
Regular JSON viewers expect a clean document, while in real life JSON is buried inside logs, API traces, debugger output and chat pastes. Developers had to cut it out by hand before they could read it.
The solution
We wrote a character-by-character scanner that finds every {…} and […] block in arbitrary text and validates each one separately. Each block can be prettified or minified without touching the surrounding line, and is shown in the Monaco editor (the engine of VS Code) next to a folding tree view.
Key features
- Detection of JSON blocks inside any text and logs
- Prettify and minify only the active block
- Monaco editor with highlighting and validation, folding tree view
- Navigation between blocks, following the cursor
- Multiple windows, drag & drop of files, light and dark theme
- Fully offline, sandboxed renderer with a strict CSP
Result
The app is published on GitHub under the MIT license (current release v1.0.5) as a universal DMG for macOS; the code is covered by unit tests (Vitest) and end-to-end tests (Playwright).
